FOR LL.M. STUDENTS
SCHOLARSHIP & FUNDING OPTIONS
Most universities automatically consider applicants for merit-based scholarships as part of the LL.M. application process — no separate application is required. Still, it’s important to review each university’s scholarship and financial aid programs individually.
In addition to merit-based scholarships, here are several scholarship and funding options for international LL.M. students:
Fundação Estudar – Offers scholarships for Brazilians up to age 34 pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs abroad.
Ling Institute / EAGV-LLM – Provides partial scholarships for Brazilian students accepted into master’s programs in the U.S. or Europe. Awards typically range from $5,000 to $10,000.
Chevening Scholarship (UK) – Funded by the UK government, this scholarship covers tuition, airfare, and living expenses for international students with leadership potential and strong academic records.
The Rowe Fund (Organization of American States) – Offers interest-free loans to students from Latin America and the Caribbean pursuing studies in the U.S.
AAUW International Fellowships – Grants $18,000 to non-U.S. citizen women pursuing full-time graduate studies in the U.S.
Nomad Credit – A platform that helps international students research and compare private education loans, including options for those with U.S.-based guarantors.
Prodigy Finance – Provides loans for international graduate students at top universities, funded by a global community of alumni and investors.
Sallie Mae – Offers loans covering 100% of university-certified expenses for international students with a U.S.-based guarantor.
Ascent Funding – Provides student loans for international students (also requiring a U.S. guarantor) with funds paid directly to the university.
Federal Loans (USA) – Available only to U.S. citizens or green card holders, including Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans and Grad PLUS loans.
Garcia Family Foundation Scholarship – Provides ten $7,000 scholarships annually to support Brazilian students with living expenses while studying at competitive universities in the U.S.
Scholarship and Funding Options for LL.M. Students
Universities offer a range of financial aid options for international students beyond merit-based scholarships. These include student loans, need-based aid, partial funding programs, and flexible payment plans. Since each institution has its own requirements and deadlines, it’s essential to research your options early to secure the best financial support for your studies abroad.
